Alivia J Grade 9 Alivia J is a new freshman this year and demonstrates true BlueSky Star qualities shown by her excellent quality of work, her positive communications with staff and how hard she works to stay on pace. When asked how she stays successful here at BlueSky, she replied: “I am successful at BlueSky because of the ability to set my own schedule and work at my own pace. I also thrive here because of the great teacher interactions and support when I need it. Following my to-do list helps me stay on track and I love that I have the option to get ahead. I am challenged by the autonomy of making my own decisions and being independent, focused, and determined helps me be successful. I like that I am challenged and have creative projects that use my thinking skills and creativity at BlueSky. I enjoy being able to take breaks when needed, work in different locations, and not have traditional school distractions. I also like the user-friendly program and curriculum at BlueSky. Overall, I love that I can work at my own pace and have the flexibility and independence that I would not have in a traditional classroom. -Nominated by Dawn Nicol Nadia P Grade 8 Nadia joined BlueSky this fall to have a change of pace from her previous middle school experience. She is an 8th grade student who experienced some adjustment issues with moving to online learning, which many online students do. With help from her team of teachers, Social Worker and School Counselor, she was able to rise to the challenge and flourish in the online environment. Nadia said “The teachers are really nice”, this was a positive change from previous school settings where she did not feel as supported. In Nadia’s free time she enjoys gymnastics. Her grades have improved significantly and she reports she is “really proud of herself”. I am proud of her too! -Nominated by Dawn Mensing Jenna H Grade 12 We are nominating Jenna H to be featured this month as a BlueSky star based on her outstanding work ethic, adaptability, and self-advocacy skills. Jenna joined BlueSky after moving to a small town where the local high school wasn’t quite the right fit for her. Having been a talented athlete participating in gymnastics, swimming, synchronized swimming, and softball at her previous school, she quickly proved herself versatile and able to adapt to new situations. Time and again she has shown herself to be a strong and capable student making challenging online courses look effortless. Jenna’s advice to other BlueSky students trying to find success is to make sure to ask for help when you need it. When not doing online courses, she enjoys coloring and playing with her new puppy. Jenna plans to attend college after she graduates high school this spring and will surely thrive wherever she ends up. -Nominated by Laura Welciek & Bonnie Jude Kaylee V Grade 12 I have nominated Kaylee V as a BlueSky Star student because she has positively earned it by being a perfect example of a successful online student. This is Kaylee’s second school year with BlueSky, she is a senior and I’m very excited to see her graduate in June! Kaylee is a very bright, dedicated, and motivated student and she has a perfect attendance record this year! She makes my job as an advisor very easy! When asked what she enjoys about BlueSky, Kaylee replied: “What I enjoy about BlueSky is that it’s a flexible schedule and you can go at your own pace”. When not doing schoolwork Kaylee enjoys shopping, hanging out with friends, and working out. Kaylee plans to attend SMSU to become a teacher! Go, Kaylee! Your future is bright!! -Nominated by Jen Anderson Luke P Grade 10 Luke P is a shining example of a BlueSky Star because he is a wonderful student AND a wonderful human being! Luke is new to BlueSky and online learning as he started with us this year. But he quickly adapted and has fully embraced the online learning culture. He works hard daily in his courses and puts forth much effort! He is also very communicative with his advisor and teachers on both an academic and personal level. Luke is motivated, organized, dedicated, and driven to succeed! And personally, he is incredibly kind and outgoing!! He is positive, happy, and appreciative. Luke is a model student and young man who I am grateful to work with each week! -Nominated by Danielle Fackler Zach B Grade 11 Zach B is a great example of everything we look for in a BlueSky student. An 11th grader, Zach has shown a willingness to communicate and collaborate with his peers, his teachers, and myself (his advisor). Between attending school trips such as the Learning Jet to his nearly perfect attendance record, Zach’s academic commitment and consistency has been nothing short of amazing. He credits his success to being able to eat freely, the guidance from his mother, and the otherwise flexible scheduling that BlueSky offers. Outside of school Zach enjoys exploring his creative side through listening to records, assembling elaborate LEGO sets, and drawing. He also enjoys spending time with his new mini Australian Shepherd Poodle mix puppy, Poppi. While both hard work and dedication are evident in his academic efforts, it is his kindness and overall positive attitude that shines through the most in our conversations. She is graduating early (January) so I am sad that I will not be working with her anymore, but glad she is moving on towards her future goals. She works hard at her job and in her family businesses so being in the online environment is helpful by providing the flexibility that she needs. When asked to share about what she likes about BlueSky and how she stays successful in her classes, she replied: “1.
